Information for Emergency Officials
US-HERO is pleased to provide the following information for Emergency Management Officials, to assist you in ascertaining our capabilities and limitations.
NIMS Compliance
US-HERO is fully committed to being in compliance with NIMS (National Incident Management System). All of our members are required to complete IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800. All of our team captains have also completed G-300, Intermediate ICS. The Deputy Chiefs and above have also completed G-400, Advanced ICS. Moreover, US-HERO operates according to the Incident Command System in all of our missions.
We are certified as being NIMS compliant with the Texas Governor's Divison of Emergency Management and Texas Forest Service
Member Training and Certification Standards
All of our members are qualified in Search & Rescue specialties based upon the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Standard 1006, "Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications", Year 2008 edition. This standard is the most comprehensive standard for Search & Rescue in the world and is what professional fire and rescue departments use. These specialties include:
| Wilderness Search & Rescue |
Light Urban Search & Rescue |
Rope Rescue |
| Surface Water Rescue |
Swiftwater Rescue |
Dive Rescue & Recovery |
Specialty Capabilities
US-HERO also has K-9 assets available to augment our services. This includes Live Air Scent, Tracking and Trailing and Cadaver Scent. All K-9's are trained and certified by nationally accepted standards for K-9's, to include NASAR, FEMA and other certifying organizations that comply with ASTM standards on K-9's.
Activation and Deployment
US-HERO and units can only be activated and deployed with a request from an Emergency Official. This includes local jurisdictional authorities, state agencies and federal agencies. We do not respond to requests from private individuals. We do not charge for responding to emergencies. We can be activated by our emergency pager (1-888-499-1235) or through the Texas Regional Response Network of the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
Field Operations
US-HERO teams are self sustaining for 72 hours. Our maximum limit for a single deployment is 7 days, with support mechanisms in place to replenish. Working with a deployment schedule, we can rotate teams in and out of the incident to maintain up to 30 days of supported operations.
Incident Security
US-HERO members are trained and operate to ICS standards for incident security. Our members do not speak with the media, unless the incident command PAO gives permission. US-HERO is a NOT a "publicity hound" organization.
