US-HERO's "Southwest Emergency Services Academy"
Search & Rescue Recruit Course

Volunteer Emergency Responders receive training right here in Austin, Texas from nationally certified instructors and specialists. To accomplish this, US-HERO offers two Volunteer Recruit Schools per year, as a core offering of our Southwest Emergency Services Academy (SWESA). The recruit school covers the material and certifications you will need to become an active Technician and includes the following:

  • Wilderness SAR Technician (NIMS & NFPA 1006/1670)
  • Disaster Technician (FEMA CERT)
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations
  • Advanced First Aid/CPR
  • Intro to Technical Rescue
  • Incident Command System

The recruit school concept was developed in response to volunteers desire to obtain the necessary training in an efficient manner and start participating with their fellow volunteer and career emergency responders. We hope that you will decide to be an emergency responder with US-HERO or another group.

No previous experience is required. You can receive your training at our facilities. Certified instructors teach CPR, Advanced First Aid, SAR, Incident Command, Hazmat Awareness, and other courses. US-HERO is a leader in the USA for NFPA and NIMS compliant training and operations in the Search & Rescue arena.
